Kihei never rains

It’s been raining for the past couple days, regardless of the rumors that say, “Kihei never rains.”

My backyard welcomes the rain. We grow bananas, oranges, tangerines, limes and papayas. My orchids and ferns love it, and so do the ti leaves.

This isn’t the stormy kind of rain that drives into my screened windows, sideways. This rainfall drops straight down and gently. I love it. Nice for sleeping and waking up to light chirping of sparrows. Gosh, I wonder where those feral roosters sleep during the rain?

Speaking of rain, my friend observed that the visitors who are here right now are afraid to get wet. So they stand under covered protection in front of the supermarket until the rain stops. What’s with that? Coming from snow country where they wear multiple layers of clothing, insulated jackets and boots, you’d think they wouldn’t think twice about wet rain.

Come on. Enjoy the rain. It’s not even cold.
